Shafer Days has always held a car show (21 years) but due to the you-know-what, this year was cancelled. The show organizers decided to go on with the show and be mindful of social distancing while at the same time honoring one of their favorite enthusiasts Jack.
The show is sponsored by the Shafer Saloon and Ole’s Crossroads. The two establishments will decide winners of two trophies. They will both be offering food and drink during the show along with outdoor seating.
This isn’t saying goodbye to a regular show, rather just a blip on the radar and the show promises to be back bigger than ever next year.
Just a quick reminder that both Chisago City and Lindstrom Farmers’ Markets are still open and have some wonderful items for purchase. Corn is spectacular right now by the way. Chisago City’s market runs Friday afternoons in Moberg Park and Lindstrom’s runs Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings at St. Bridget Catholic Church parking lot in downtown Lindstrom.
If you are like me, this is the time when I am digging my snowblower out from under our deck to get it ready for (uggg) snow. Under my deck is a magnet. A magnet that collects absolutely everything. Scrap wood, scrap metal, broken appliances, broken stuff in general. This Saturday is a chance for you to get rid of that stuff. The Steel Chick is holding a recycle day at Chisago Lake Township Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is your chance to get rid of your junk. See you there.
So when we decided to move back to Chisago Lakes about 17 years ago, we were excited. Excited to finally get out of the cities (Ok it was Blaine) and enjoy the country with some peace and quiet. We looked and looked for a property that we could afford and had a bit of land. We stumbled across our present lot and immediately fell in love. The owner oddly enough had us come to the property at 10 a.m. to walk the land. It was peaceful, with maybe one vehicle passing us in the hour we were there. Our property is along County Road 83 (yes I know the numbers have changed but it will always be 83 to me). After building and settling in, we quickly realized we had been duped. The peaceful setting was actually a piece of land attached to a super freeway. We had people from Wisconsin traveling home from work at a high rate of speed, we had high school students zooming home after school daily. We had Harleys roaring by at all times of the night (stop with the emails, I am a motorcycle rider too).
Over the years we have planted countless trees to buffer the ever-increasing traffic and for the most part it has been great. But this year we have one vehicle in particular that has gotten under my skin. There is a blue crotch rocket that is bent on seeing how fast his motorcycle can go while passing our property. If I estimated he is going 100, I would safely say I am estimating low. Someday an animal will stroll out in front of this guy and we will be calling the morgue because he is lying in our yard.
If you know who this genius is, please tell him to slow down or take another route.
