This weekend there are a couple of fun events locally for you to take in if you choose.

The Franconia Sculpture Park is hosting an Art & Artist celebration on Saturday. On top of the celebration they are having a grand opening of their Franconia Commons building which will be the home of future educational series.  I have been there and looked into the windows - it is gorgeous.  Besides some great art (new art) there will be musical performances by XOXOTECH and Little Tin Box.  There will be food trucks as well.  You can catch one of many artmaking demonstrations throughout the day from some artists-in-residence.

The event is free and runs from 3 pm until 9 pm.  There is a $5 parking fee.  See you there!

Sunrise River Farm on the way to Wyoming is hosting their very popular Craft Show on Saturday.  There will be as usual lots of great crafters  there offering some very cool stuff.  This is on top of all the incredible items Sunrise already offers. In case you were wondering, apple season has begun so you can bring home some delectable apples as well.  They are asking to please wear masks and social distance per CDC guidelines.

The good folks at Lakes and Pines are offering something that I think is great. They (due to Covid) have created a virtual respite for caregivers and care receivers.  They are offering weekly virtual meetings with fun activities such as chair exercises, brain stimulating activities and crafts, great conversations and new friendships as well as resource sharing. Let’s face it, we all could use a break and those who are caregivers are such amazing people, this is a chance for them and their patients to take a break and let Lakes and Pines do the entertaining.  All they ask for is a quick and easy phone registration by calling 800-832-6083 then extension 1902.

So it appears we just may have a high school fall sports season yet.  as of yesterday, the powers that be have deemed volleyball and football okay to begin.  Baring an outbreak, this has the chance to be awesome. Not just for the kids, but for those of us who enjoy local sports.  For me, there is nothing better than a crisp fall night watching football.  Will it be different with the pandemic? Of course, but if we do the right thing and obey the recommendations, it should be just fine. What’s the alternative? Us sitting at home like we have for the last umpteen months?  I think it’s great.

Tuesday was national voter registration day.  Minnesota offers online voter registration. You can register by mail to vote in Minnesota by printing a voter registration form, filling it out, and mailing it to your local election office. You can also register to vote in person if you prefer.  As we know, this year’s election stands to be one of the highest turnouts we have ever seen, so let your voice be heard and register to vote.  Oh, and keep your negativity, we have enough of that in the world right now.  Sorry.
