He began his career as a math teacher in Cambridge and then taught at Plymouth Junior High in the Robbinsdale School District (commuting in a series of cool cars!) and at Robbinsdale Cooper High School, until retiring in 2000. Mark enjoyed summers at his cottage on South Center Lake where he was a cordial host to family and friends. Many had their first waterskiing experience behind one of his boats. In his woodworking shop he produced an amazing number of creative projects including canoes, lovely boxes, book stands, and small models of the iconic Lindstrom coffee pot water tower. For parties Mark compiled clever trivia quizzes with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Each Christmas we received informative booklets he created on a variety of interesting themes.
Mark is preceded in death by parents John and Wanda (Hellerud) Ostrom and sister Adele Marie (Ostrom) Taylor. He is survived by sister Norma (Ostrom) Magnuson, New Hope; niece Carrie Magnuson, Minneapolis; nephew Paul Magnuson, Leysin, Switzerland; niece Anne (Taylor) Elliott, Eltham, Australia; nephew John Taylor, Goode, Virginia; and dear friend Bonnie Abrahamson, Lindstrom.
Mark was a kind, generous and gentle soul, and we’ll miss him tremendously.
Services will be at a later date, and memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
