History lesson I applied already, live Nativities on Saturday

Last week I wrote about the showing of the Emigrants at the high school.  I knew as soon as I wrote it I may solicit calls because of my lack of technicalities when it comes to local history.  I am lucky enough to know some real historians here, and call them friends.  I do apologize if I have offended anyone when I called the story’s main couple Karl and Kristina Oskar.  Here is your history lesson  I am passing along.  It has helped me...now if I can remember it!

Most men in Sweden have their first and middle name as their formal name.  For instance, my cousin from Sweden was Carl-Werner Pettersson. His son is Carl-Johan Pettersson. Some men in Sweden only go by their first name, like Hans or Bosse. So, the male character is Karl Oskar and his last name is Nilsson. His wife is Kristina Nilsson. To reference them correctly, you say, "Karl Oskar Nilsson and Kristina Nilsson."

On Saturday from 1 to 3 pm, the good folks at St. Paul Luthern in Wyoming invite you to experience a drive-thru Nativity.  They will recreate as best they can the birth of Jesus and the other biblical characters present at that amazing time.  They are asking people to please donate a non-perishable food item or two to for the local food shelf.  The church is located at 5879 Wyoming Trail,  in Wyoming. Very easy to get to.

There is another Chirstmas nativity event happening that is in person on Saturday.  The folks at First United Methodist Church in Lindstrom are hosting their living nativity.  It is the recreation of Jesus’ birth done by actors set outside.  Words can’t express how moving this is, seriously you have to come see it for yourself.  It is a very short production, so if you have plans, you will be in and out in around 20 minutes or so. There are actors of all ages as well as animals and even an angel.  Your kids will love it, you will love it.  The church is located at 30828 Irene Ave. Turn at the Mddle school and its one block north of the tennis courts. Shows run 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30.

Remember - our coloring contest entries are due by December 20.  We ran the page in the gift guide a few weeks back and the Press last week.  If you are in need og a coloring page or two, we have plenty here at the Press.  Our address if you have never been here is 12631 Lake Blvd., Lindstrom.  We have the statues of Karl and Kristina......Nilsson... Ha! I got it!

If your family is like mine, a staple of our holiday meals always includes a cheese tray from Eichten’s Cheese Farm.  You are in luck, Eileen, Brenda, Tammy and the rest of the crew are holding two more pop-up holiday gift markets.  The market is held at the Farm located on Rainbow avenue off of 310th Street between Shafer and Center City.  They have some great gift ideas for your family as well as amazing cheese - Swiss Almond - it’s making my mouth water just writing it.  They have a great website where you can order gifts and receive a 15 percent discount.   See you there.
