Jack was born on January 1, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio to Audrey and John Floyd. Jack graduated from John H. Patterson Co-op High School and attended Purdue University. Jack worked in the early days of computer technology and loved learning new technologies for the rest of his life. Jack took flying lessons for years. He flew Cessnas into his 60s and remained an avid fan of aviation. Photography was a passion for Jack. Many of his photographs are hanging in his home as treasured possessions. Jack married Jan Solberg on September 30, 1973. They moved to Osceola, WI a few years later to raise their children, Zachary and Jessica. Jack was active in Boy Scouts as a Troop Leader for Troop 131. Much to Zach’s chagrin, they spent countless hours outdoors camping, canoeing, and earning merit badges. Jack loved working with his kid’s and their friends, watching their high school sports teams, and watching band performances. He took great pride in anything Zach and Jess did in school. The greatest joy of Jack’s life was being a part of his family's lives. His nieces and nephews could always count on Uncle Jack being in the stands or taking them on a canoe trip. Jack and Jan’s home became the gathering space for their families. Outdoor gatherings were regular occasions and usually ended with a picture of a family pyramid. He was happiest when surrounded by his family. Jack relished in being a grandfather to Olive, Emett, and Sophie. Attending all of the concerts, plays, and games. He was incredibly proud of everything his grandbabies did.
Jack and Jan loved to travel. Jack’s true love was the ocean. He enjoyed summer trips to Kennebunkport, Maine and could not wait to get his feet wet in the waves whenever the opportunity presented itself. A treasured memory was a trip to Paris with Jan’s brother Greg and his family. Jack’s love for his wife Jan was profound. They celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in September. Jan was by his side, holding his hand as he passed on, something she is eternally grateful for.
Jack is survived by his wife Jan; son Zachary and Melissa Floyd; daughter Jessica Floyd; grandchildren, Olive, Emett, and Sophie; Sister, Conny Poole of Dayton, Ohio; brother Joe Floyd of Texas; sisters-in-law, Linnie King, Sue and Peter Schwarz, and brother-in-law, Rick Solberg; many nieces and nephews and special relatives.
