He was born on February 28, 1926 to Carl E. and Attilia (Kroonblawd) Strand. Leo married Mildred Bjorkman at his family home on February 23, 1946. They were married for 58 years and together they raised six children. Millie preceded him in death in 2004. Leo graduated from Chisago High School and went on to become a pipefitter. He was a member of the Minneapolis Pipefitters Local 539 for 70 years. Leo was especially proud of his work on the Metrodome and the VA Hospital. In addition, he was a farmer, raising kids, crops, beef, pigs, horses and chickens. For many years he had a milk cow, feeding and milking before and after commuting to the cities to work.
He is survived by his children Sharon (Chuck) Cobbs, Susan (David) Dobrotka, John Strand, Jackie (Rick) Frederickson, Connie (Don) Amsler, and Craig (Renee) Strand. Leo has 25 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, a brother Richard (Linda) Strand, brother-in-law Richard (Mary Ann) Bjorkman and several nieces and nephews. Leo was proud of his Swedish heritage. He loved his wife and children, worked hard, supported his family and was always willing to help his neighbors and friends.
Leo enjoyed music and dancing, camping, hunting, nature, lutefisk and a good game of cribbage. Skol!
The family wishes to thank the Hospice Care team for their exceptional guidance and support. There will be a graveside service for family at Fairview Cemetery in Lindstrom, MN.
