There is  a proposal that is making its way through the MN House.  A bill proposing an end to daylight savings time for the state of Minnesota is gaining steam.  Currently the Federal government controls whether a state can change or not. If pressured by state leaders, the government has the ability to change much like Arizona, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, which do not follow current daylight savings time.  There have been countless studies that show the benefits of not changing times, including health, safety and in my opinion sanity.  The proposal is being considered in the MN House of Representatives. If you think this would be a good idea, I encourage you to contact your local legislators and let them know you support eliminating daylight savings in proposal HF72.

There is a new kind-of up and coming store in Center City.  You have seen them in other towns, open-box stores that sell items from the big box stores. Bargain Bin$ is located in the Swedish Village Mall in Center City.  They are located on the end by Phil’s Grill - which is re-opening by the way.  You will find all kinds of merchandise from major retailers including Target.  This new store is run by local residents Scott and Karen Johnson and Jeff and Natasha Smith. Stop in and say welcome to the neighborhood.  For those of you who don’t know where the Swedish Village Mall is, it’s the white mall behind the The Grumpy Minnow and Pizza Pub in Center City.

We here at the Press have started working on the 2021/22 Chisago Lakes Activity Guide. Once again we are partnering with the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber to bring you the most comprehensive info-filled periodical about Chisago Lakes and surrounding areas.  Judging by our initial response, this book is going to be bigger than ever.

I think businesses and consumers are sick and tired of being sick and tired, and are making a push to bring life and the local economy back to life after a year plus of depression.  If you have or work at a local business, this is a great opportunity for you to get your message out to the public and to visitors to our area.  The magazine was close to 100 pages last year and was circulated throughout the year all over.  Give us a call at 6512-257-5115 or email us at [email protected] to be included in the guide.  We have some great composition people who can help you create the perfect ad.

It sounds like we may have some amazing warm temperatures coming our way.  Just having the sun out the last week has changed attitudes.  What is going to happen if we actually hit the 50’s?  That last cold spell we just went through made us forget all about how nice winter was up until then. We had a pretty good winter until our pipes froze... maybe this weather will make us forget the deep freeze.

Happy Birthday to one of our favorite people Laurie Doughty.  Laurie has been the anchor of the Chisago Lakes Chamber and a very good friend for years and years. Here’s hoping you have a great birthday - even if it’s with Dan.
