We recently moved to a neighborhood in from the country where we NEVER had trick-or-treaters, so we were excited to get some this year. Bought the jumbo pack of Tootsie Rolls and Dots, had lights on bright. And there we sat. And sat. And sat. Not one sole human being down our road. Now, we (keep in mind I’m on a diet) have five pounds of candy screaming my name every time I walk by. At least in the country we had visitors - raccoons.
I am not one for conspiracies but I do like to listen to them for entertainment purposes. Well, I recently read an article that interviewed two former Facebook employees about information that Facebook has. Very enlightening to say the least. If these employees are stating the truth or even partially the truth there is some serious invasion of privacy taking place. The app (just the app - if you access Facebook from your computer you are fine) has too many to list. According to these employees, our behaviors, contact details, social graphs, locations, device details, shopping habits, browsing histories are all fair game to be harvested and sold by brokers or used by tech giants to sell targeted ads that will make us buy. Umm yikes..
Anyways before I totally botch trying to talk technical, the gist of both the articles I read was telling us to at the very least dump the app. Just for the sake of this maybe being true, I decided to do just that. And immediately I found one glaring point - it was awesome. Instead of casually drifting through a few minutes of Facebook which turns into an hour wasted, I found talking, going for a walk, calling our kids all so refreshing. I am not here to tell you what to do, but whether those articles were factual or not, this five day break has been wonderful.
We have some exciting high school sports taking place right now. Greta Gillach and Jill Erickson just competed at state tennis at the UofM. They won a match before eventually losing. Awesome job girls!
