Wildcat Katherine Saueressig picked a great time to score her first goal of the season, breaking a 1-1 tie to give the Wildcats a 2-1 win over the Vikings. The Vikings got on the board 15 minutes into the game. A throw in ended up in the Wildcat box. Summer Fruth volleyed it back over her own head from the far post, and Sharleen Garcia Velazquez finished it off to put the Vikings up 1-0. But the Wildcats answered just 24 seconds later. On the ensuing kickoff, defender Abby Rogers took the ball up the middle and laid the ball off to Madison Kubalek, who scored to tie the game at 1-1. Momentum swung back and forth throughout the second half. With 15 minutes left in the game, the Viking defense tried to clear a ball from their own end, but instead sent it into the middle of the field. Saueressig was in the right spot and fired a one-timer from 40 yards out for the winning goal.
Viking head coach Josh Kopp said, “Chisago Lakes carried a little bit more of the possession throughout the game, but we had better chances to score. They seemed very motivated, and we were fatigued. And it seemed like our decision-making was not on par with our usual standards.”

The Wildcats scored twice in the second half to beat the Vikings 2-0. On the first goal, the Vikings had trouble getting to a ball in their own box and fouled a Wildcat player. Ryan Zaruba converted the penalty kick to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Later in the half, the Wildcats added an insurance goal off a deflection and won the game 2-0. Viking head coach Jake Borash said, “The Wildcats deserved to win the game, but I wish we could take it back and play it again.”
