Lighting Festival was amazing and so was one of its volunteers

What an absolutely beautiful night Taylors Falls had for the lighting festival.  Mid 40’s, no wind and tons of people.  It was one of the biggest attendance at a Lighting Festival in Taylors Falls to my memory.  The street was lined with people from Casey’s all the way to the Drive-In on both sides.

Thank you to the organizers of the Lighting Festival and to all of the volunteers who made it such a great event.  There wasn’t one person there who was having a bad time.

Speaking of the Lighting Festival, we lost a key part of the festival and more importantly— the community.  Dr. Bill Young has passed away.  Bill was the voice of the parade for as long as I can remember and a staple of Taylors Falls. He was a champion for the businesses and was a font of knowledge when it came to the history of Taylors Falls.  It’s a sad day, but Bill is in a better place.

If you are looking for some local Christmas things to do, this weekend is for you.  Lindstrom and Chisago City both will hold their annual tree lighting ceremonies.
Lindstrom will be first on Saturday at 4:30 in Memorial Park.  There will be hot cocoa, coffee and bonfires to stay warm.  The boy scouts will be assisting with s’more making and there will be music from the high school brass ensemble with the Sankta Lucia carolers.  Santa will be lighting the city and he will be available for pictures and to take your children’s wish lists.  They are asking for donations to the food shelf and or toys to be donated to the Anonymous Santa program.

Sunday is Chisago City’s lighting festival which is held in Moberg Park at 4:30 p.m. There will be sleigh rides, caroling by the high school choir, hot cocoa, cookies, a petting zoo and of course a visit from Santa who will be available for photos and wish lists. They are also asking the public to please bring a donation to the food shelf and or a toy for Anonymous Santa.

Both events are a great time, I hope to see you out there.

Keeping on the Chirstmas theme - The sign-up for the Free Community Christmas meal at First United Methodist Church is now open.  The deadline is December 14, so if you are planning on attending, I would urge you to call them at 651-257-4306.

They are still in need of volunteers to help serve the food and work the kitchen.  Please call the number mentioned to volunteer.  They will take whatever time you can donate whether it’s two hours or 10 minutes.

Remember to drop off or send in your children’s coloring for our contest.  Prizes will be awarded for age groups but we will need them soon.  Send to P.O. box 748, Lindstrom, MN  55045.  Good luck!
