William Ward Young, MD
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara; children; Eric (Pat), Christopher (Michelle), Amy (Denny) Haack; bonus kids, Dan (Sally) Delaney and Dawn (Jeremy) Gran. In addition, there are nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Bill grew up in Farmington, Minnesota, graduated from Hamline University and received a master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin. While at summer church camp at Frontenac, Minnesota he met Barbara Fair, and they were married at the same site on June 29, 1958.
Bill taught chemistry at Edina High School for eight years and at that point changed direction into medicine. Barb taught in Bloomington to put Bill through medical school and kept their three children thriving.
They came to Taylors Falls in 1972 and Bill practiced Family Medicine at St. Croix Falls Hospital and Clinic for 30 years. He was privileged to deliver nearly 1,300 babies during his career.
In his community life he served on the school board, City Council and was Lay Leader of his church for over 40 years.
He was captain/coach of his college tennis team and played into his 70’s. Golf was also a passion though his usual score was bogey. He loved to relax at the cabin on the St. Croix River.
Bill loved being a doctor and learning about his patients and their lives.
He was also so proud of his children and grandchildren, and was most blessed by Barb, his one and only love.
