Wildcats grab two important wins over Princeton and Vis

Chisago Lakes 5, Princeton 0
The Wildcat girls’ hockey team poured it on against the Princeton Tigers, outshooting them 65-18 for the game and shutting out the Tigers 5-0 at Princeton First Bank & Trust Ice Arena on Thursday December 8.

The Wildcats came out fast, outshooting the Tigers 21-4 in the first period.  Ella Perreault scored at 7:20, assisted by Lauren Schmidt, to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.  Perreault scored again with three minutes to go in the period, with the assist going to Nora DeVries, to double the Wildcat lead.  Tianna Ritter added a goal midway through the second period, assisted by Seanna Ritter and Syd Kerkow, to make it 3-0.  And just over a minute later, with the Wildcats on a penalty kill, Schmidt scored an unassisted shorthanded goal for a 4-0 Wildcat lead.  Nora DeVries scored the game’s final goal halfway through the third period, with assists going to Schmidt and Laine DeVries.  Goalie Breanna Ritter stopped all 18 shots she faced to pick up her first shutout of the season.

Chisago Lakes 4, Visitation 3
Lauren Schmidt scored with 48 seconds left in the game to break a 3-3 tie and gave the Wildcats a 4-3 win over the Visitation Blazers.  The game was played at St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights on Saturday, December 10.  Visitation’s Gracia Munoz scored all three of her team’s goals to pick up a hat trick.  The Wildcats outshot Visitation 43-21 for the game.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period.  Laine DeVries scored five minutes into the game, assisted by Lexi Smothers and Ella Perreault.  Seanna Ritter scored the second goal of the period with about 90 seconds remaining, with the assist going to Allison Johnson.  Munoz scored six minutes into the second period to cut the Wildcat lead to 2-1.  But Perreault added an unassisted goal with 45 seconds left in the period to put the Wildcats back up by two goals.  Munoz scored twice less than three minutes apart midway through the third period to tie the game at 3-3.  But Schmidt’s late goal, assisted by Perrault, ensured a happy bus ride home for the Wildcats.

Hockey Hullaballoo
The Wildcats (4-3) will welcome the fifth-ranked South St. Paul Packers to Chisago Lakes Arena tonight at 7 p.m. for the Wildcats first and only home game until the new year.   And next Tuesday, December 20, the Wildcats will head to Breck School Anderson Ice Arena in Golden Valley to take on the Breck Mustangs.
