Darrold Rasmussen

Darrold James Rasmussen, 93, of North Branch, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2022 at Ecumen North Branch.

Darrold was the last surviving of 10 children of Emma and Rasmus Rasmussen, who were first generation Danish immigrants. Born in Clam Falls, Wisconsin, on October 18, 1929, Darrold moved at an early age to Strandquist, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school before joining the United States Air Force, serving in Chile during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the Air Force he married the former Martha Orcutt and moved to St. Paul before settling the family in Taylors Falls. They raised five children who survive them; Anne Rasmussen of Albuquerque, NM, Ellen Lechlitner of Mishawaka, IN, Suzanne Schmalz of Milltown, WI, Chris Rasmussen of Robbinsdale, MN, and Andy Rasmussen of Frontenac, MN. Other survivors include seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Darrold and Martha were both artists and musicians, producing many treasured watercolor and oil paintings and leading groups of singers in performances at senior centers and community events. Both played the piano, while Martha also played the accordion and Darrold played the guitar. Darrold supported many charitable causes including the St. Joseph’s Indian School, Easterseals, and the Disabled American Veterans.

A memorial service will be held in the spring.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of Grandstrand Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Branch.  Condolences maybe expressed online at www. grandstrandfh.com
