Como Park cruises past Wildcats despite double-double from Erickson

The Chisago Lakes girls basketball team got a big game from senior Emily Erickson, but it wasn’t enough as St. Paul Como Park made quick work of the Wildcats in their lone game last week on Tuesday, December 20.

Erickson ended the game with 26 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, but the Wildcats still found themselves down by 14 at halftime, and the Tigers continued to stretch the lead in the second half.

Brianna Wille had a very nice supporting game, scoring 12 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Eva Aldrich scored 12 points for the Wildcats.

The Tigers featured a lethal inside-out combination of senior guard Shania Nichols VanNett, who scored 24 points, had six rebounds, six assists and two steals and 5’11” post Zhane Singer, a senior who scored 22 points to go along with 11 rebounds and five blocks. Kayla James also had 11 points for Como while shooting 40 percent from the three point line and Alice Wagner-Hemstad had seven points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

Como Park outscored CL 37-23 on the first half and even though the ‘Cats got their offense going a bit better in the second half, Como scored 39 to outscore CL 39-33.

The Wildcats have a lengthy break they are currently in. They haven’t played since December 20 and don’t take the court again until they host Ogilvie on Tuesday, January 3.

After that game, they’ll head on a long trek across western Minnesota with their next seven games away at St. Francis, Cambridge-Isanti, Becker, Sauk Rapids Rice, Monticello and Big Lake. They’ll also take on St. Croix Prep in that two week stretch.
