There’s a group of about 30 area citizens who proudly promote the idea of being a “good neighbor” and invite anybody who wants to contribute to the wellbeing of the community to get involved.

The Chisago Lakes Good Neighbor Club is on Facebook and has a website.

One of the group’s first tasks was cleaning up the roadside in Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area as part of their Adopt-a-Highway project. According to one of the founding members Marlys Dunne, the Good Neighbors had helped out Rotary in its annual garbage cleanup, and decided to reserve their own special stretch of Stacy Trail listed in the Adopt a Highway inventory.

“Our Facebook and website was launched a few weeks ago and is growing weekly,” Dunne said. The mission statement for the group is simple, “... the club through its resources and diverse members contributes to the needs and wellbeing of our communities through acts of kindness.”

The club just assisted an older couple getting gravel laid for a home when they ran short on funds and the concrete was arriving soon.

The Karl Oskar Day Parade in Lindstrom will feature the group and their food drive. Watch for members in the parade collecting non-perishable goods along the route to deliver to the area food pantry.

They’ll also be playing in Rotary’s annual golf tournament which is a major revenue generator for good deeds.

They have also helped people put in docks and are open to any project where a helping hand is needed.

Dunne added that the group has received its non-profit status and can accept donations. “We have a wide variety of talent and experience ...so there’s not much we can’t offer in terms of hands-on-help for those in need,” she concluded.
