Well as we shift into the doldrums of the tweener months, that is when we here at the Press work diligently on our 2022-23 Community and Visitor Guide.

I did write about it last week, but if you missed it, here it goes.  We have put the guide out for 20 years now and have since seen it blossom from a 38 page black and white magazine to a beautiful 100 page full color magazine.  It is filled with wonderful information about our area with a mix of history and emphasis on local activities and sights.  It is a valuable reference to keep at your home or at your business all year long.  It makes a perfect waiting room piece for those businesses that have such rooms.

So now that you can see that such a piece holds it’s value all year long, if you own or run a business in the area, why would you not want to advertise in the guide?  Your ad literally lasts all year long.  Give us a call at 651-257-5115 or email us at [email protected].  We do have a finite space limitation so I would urge a call or email sooner than later.  We want nothing more than to help your business flourish with our help.

There are still openings for high school students who would like to be on a bass fishing team this summer.  Boys and girls will compete against other schools and will fish competitively once a week.

In-house tournaments are held on Monday evenings from 5:30pm-8:30pm on local lakes beginning in May.  Conference tournaments (optional)are also on Mondays, are 3 all day tournaments and begin in June.  We have weekly off-water required training and will be held one day a week (either Wednesday or Thursday evenings) beginning in May. Registration for the fishing team will close on April 1, 2022.
There will be a mandatory Kick Off Meeting for anglers, their parents and boat captains on Tuesday, March 23 at 6pm in the barrel room at The Uncommon Loon in Chisago City. This is an informational meeting that is required and will also have some Q & A at the end so everyone understands what the season will look like and what all of the options are. school event).

Don't worry, there will be boats available with captains who will be with the students as they fish.  If they had this when I was in school, I would have jumped at the chance.  You can register your student or team on their Facebook page “Chisago Lakes Fishing Team”  or by calling 651-592-3526.  If you have questions, please email [email protected].

March is Annual Food Shelf Month.  So what does that mean?  It means that after a long ugly winter, local food shelf reserves have been depleted and are in dire need of replenishing.  If you think that the economy is back and most everyone is doing better, well sadly, that just isn't so for some folks. In fact, the Chisago Lakes food shelf had one of it's busiest years this year.  It helped hundreds (yes hundreds) of local families get by this winter.  If it were not for them, many families would have not made it through the winter. Every person has their perception of food shelves, some views are positive and unfortunately some people view food shelves for "lazy people".  Without getting my blood pressure too worked up, I can emphatically tell you that just is not true.  Food shelves are used by hard working families who have fallen on hard times.  do you think people like to visit food shelves? We all know the answer to that one.  But there are hundreds if not thousands of families who that the Lord above they do exist.  And as they strive hard to make their lives better, they are so grateful we have food shelves in our communities.

So, if you can, please make a donation to the local food shelves.  There will be food drives at all the grocery stores this month, as well as local businesses that will accept your donations.  If you can't get to one, feel free to drop your donation off here at the Press. These are not some poor folks in another state that you are blessing, these are our neighbors and friends.  Thank you so much for helping.

It’s finally here!  My favorite time of the year, ok actually my stomach’s favorite time of the year - Fish Fry season!  St. Bridget’s Church in Lindstrom has begun their super-popular lenten fish fry and I for one can’t wait. You will get pub battered or baked cod with french fries, green beans, coleslaw, a dinner roll and a dessert.  They also have meatless spaghetti for the little ones who haven’t acquired a taste for fish yet.  They do offer to-go orders that are served from 3:30-4:30pm.  The fish fry runs Friday evenings from 5-7pm until April 8.
