Construction on the roundabout at the intersection of County Road 24 (Old Towne Road) and County Road 23 (Lofton Ave. & Chisago Blvd.) south of Chisago City will begin the week of June 6, with the road closure & detour happening on the 8th, after school is out for the summer.  Given that this intersection is situated between the lakes and there is not a good or easy way to detour traffic here, the traffic impact will be substantial.  

As a part of the construction project, a temporary bypass lane will be built so that southbound traffic on Old Towne Road and west to south bound traffic on Chisago Blvd. can be maintained.  Given the narrow corridor, traffic will not be able to go northbound on Lofton Ave. throughout the duration of construction.  Lofton Ave. will be closed to north bound traffic at the intersection of Lofton Ave. and Green Lake Trail.  Essentially, one will be able to travel “out” in the morning as usual but will need to take TH 8 or TH 97 back home in the evening.  

There will, however, be a 2-week period where Chisago Blvd. traffic will not be able to go south at the intersection.  This will be communicated in advance using changeable message signage as well as on the project website.
