East Viking Boulevard project reviewed by Wyoming City Council

Most of last week’s Wyoming City Council session was devoted to the East Viking Boulevard improvements and setting up assessments for later next year.  The city engineer Mark Erichson explained the revised project, downsized in scope due to the city not receiving a grant that had been part of earlier project budgets.

Assessment hearing dates are not until fall of 2023 but property owners attended last week’s meeting to learn more. One affected resident, Neil Gatzow, explained his concern about the calculations that he has two lots, which could be assessed two-units worth of fees or $15,000.  Gatzow has a survey and he believes it isn’t possible to carve out two lots as long as his house is standing.  They’d be undersized and wouldn’t comply with zoning conditions in order to create a lot.

Erichson said there’s a tentative second project meeting November 30 and the city council isn’t being asked to take action allowing soliciting for bids, until after that.

City Administrator Robb Linwood added that he’d like staff to review the new information providing the Gatzow property survey and advised council to wait for that analysis.

Gatzow said for various reasons he wants to resolve this before the end of 2022 if possible and he was assured the matter will be addressed in a timely fashion.
The East Viking Blvd. work is slated to go out for bids looking for a May 2023 start.

Erichson added that if any residents affected in this work zone have information to communicate, they should do so soon. If you have a system that heats a walkway or drive, for example, of have underground fence for your dog or amenities the contractor needs to be aware of, Erichson said the city has to be made aware before the site begins to be worked on.

In other business; a lot was created and approved in the Wildlife Estates area at 5759 2350th Street, with some variances in width and depth size and a one lot plat was also granted a mile or two away from this, at 7580 250th .
