Sheriff OK'd for inmate-boarding
The sheriff patrol contracts were all approved as well for next year. The sheriff provides cars and personnel to Harris, Taylors Falls, Shafer, Center City, Rush City and Stacy for the number of hours each entity decides to pay extra for.
Commissioners also agreed to a contract with Stacy to provide septic and building inspection services, as of January 2023. The county already does inspections and permits for Lent Township, so if the Stacy-Lent merger is finalized the impact would be minimal.
In total the county staff has done 134 new homesites year-to-date with Chisago Lake Township leading the contracted areas with 21 houses. Chisago City is next with 19 new homes inspected and permitted by the county.
Chisago County also does accessory buildings, additions and roofing, commercial projects and multi-family.
North Branch and Wyoming employ independent building officials.
In other matters: there is a vacancy on the Lake Improvement District Board.
Director Monica Kinny accepted a position as a part time water resources technician in the Environmental Services Department, and the LID can’t have a Board member who works for the county. See application advertising in this paper, or go to the Lake Improvement District page on the county website for details. Deadline to get an application in is Nov 30. She represented the Green Lake area.
The LID Board plans to review/select a recommended candidate at the December meeting.
And the commissioners discussed options for County Road 70, outside of Almelund, developing consensus to trim the extent of the proposed work. A new less extensive project will come for approval.
The engineer said the budget could get down to $1.4 million from the estimate of $2.1 million, by downsizing portions of the plan that some area residents have opposed. Commissioners heard the alternative will be drawn up in greater detail and brought back. Engineer Triplett said he “...wants to bring a project the Board can support.”
Commissioner Chris DuBose noted the project should also have the backing of Hay Days/Sno Barons, which has its property main access on County 70. Whatever the county decides, DuBose said the organization wants to resolve the road issues (drainage, width, subgrade) for years-out, not just short term. They don’t want to deal with another project in a few years, he’s been told.
