State Fair was not that awful, this weekend is St. Bridget's Block Party

We finally broke the bubble and got some much needed rain.  Not sure how much you got at your house but our rain guage read about 3.75 inches over the weekend.  Other than worrying about rain coming through our tarps (yes still from the May 9 storm), the fact that our plants and the lake levels were given a reprieve was great.

This weekend you are invited to St. Bridget of Sweden Church in Lindstrom for the annual Block Party.  It runs from 6pm to 10:30pm  Saturday in the parking lot.  There is an amazing turkey dinner with all the fixings as well as a beer tent, burgers, hot dogs, brats and refreshments.

There will be a bunch of kids games to keep the little ones entertained.  There is a silent auction and a $5,000 cash raffle.  The headliner of the Block Party is A Hard Days Night who is a very well known Beatle tribute band.

The Block Party is free to attend with food for purchase.  If you have already done the state fair and are looking for some great entertainment locally, come to Lindstrom.

After much begging and pleading, I finally caved to my better half’s wishes to attend the  great Minnesota get together.  To say I am a fan of the State Fair would be the lie of the century. But hey, Pitbull was playing so who could say no? Again, kidding, I had to ask multiple people what a Pitbull is and what he or she sings...

Crowds make me uneasy, think of how I feel with 161,000 other people bumping elbows on a hot sticky day.

We took the bus from one of the park and rides which we have never done in the past. I will say, it went smoother than expected.  Proceeded to take one step off the bus and there was a couple from Lindstrom.  One of maybe 15 we saw that day.

As much as I dragged my feet about going, it wasn’t completely awful.  Only sort of awful.  The beer was cold afterall.  There is a beer at Giggles Campfire Grill called Minnesota Martini Lager.  Worth the trip.

We do have a few more celebrations to take in this year locally.  Shafer Days and Almelund Apple Fest are coming in the next couple of weeks, we will let you know of all the fun happening in those events.

Thanks to all of you who recently have donated clothing to the homeless.  We have delivered one huge load and are quickly filling a second one!  As I mentioned a week or so ago, there is a huge need for underwear and socks as well as fall clothing.  If you have summer clothing to get rid of, I apologize and ask that you hold onto it for now.  If you would like to donate you can drop off here at the Press.  Thanks for giving.
