Harris pleads guilty

The man behind the wheel of a pickup truck involved in a fatality on Interstate 35 last summer  has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and is to be sentenced May 1.

Curtis Harris, 51, who resided in Arizona at the time of the incident, entered a guilty plea as part of a plea agreement before Judge Seabrooks II in Center City.

The jury trial scheduled for March 20 was called off.

Court documents state restitution is part of the plea agreement.

The victim, a male, 38,  was thrown from the pickup truck when it hit the freeway guardrail and lost a door,  and went into the median.  The crash happened around mid-day.  A second passenger that suffered less serious injuries testified to authorities Harris had been drinking while driving and was on the phone.
