A new exhibit, “High School Years”, is ready for viewing at the CCHS History Center in downtown Lindstrom.  The exhibit is a look back at the six high schools in Chisago County from the 1900’s – 1992:  Chi Hi, Chisago City , Chisago Lakes, North Branch, Rush City  and Taylors Falls.

With the help of the community, the society assembled a large collection of vintage school photos, sports uniforms/equipment, letter sweaters and other memorabilia.

The exhibit is set up in several vignettes including:  “Industrial Arts Shop”; “Home Ec Room”; “Graduation Gallery”; “Sports Corner”,  “After School Fun Spot” and the “Extracurricular Court”.

Highlights of the exhibit include: a 1903 graduation dress and calling cards; graduation announcements dating back to 1905; a 1920’s Taylors Falls basketball jersey and pennant; a 1935 Chi Hi “Homecoming Queen” gown and cape; a 1944 Chisago City letter sweater; a 1945 Rush City majorette uniform; 1950’s TFHS “Duane Olson” football and basketball and Chi Hi majorette uniforms.  There are a 1960’s North Branch dance team costume and 1976 Chisago Lakes letter sweater, and over 85 yearbooks from all six schools from 1947-1991 that can be browsed during your visit.

Special thanks to the following for their help gathering and loaning items for this exhibit:  Bob Cedergren; Dave Shaleen; Noel Stensrud – Chisago Lakes HS Alumni Association; Carol Ashton – Picket Fence Gals; Peter Lindberg – North Branch HS Alumni Association; Barb Sands Ellingson; Donna Meline Haines; Taylors Falls Historical Society; The Drive-In in Taylors Falls; Nancy Schroeder – Rush City Museum; Jennifer Tahtinen; Gary Sicheneder; Betty Hagberg; Cande Nelson and Nancy Klammer.

The public is invited to stop in to check out this fun exhibit!  There is something for everyone. You’ll enjoy this “blast from the past” whether you went to high school in the area or not. Kids will enjoy learning about baton twirlers, glee clubs and more.  And all will enjoy classic rock on the sound system as you walk through!

Open daily, except Wednesday and Sunday, from 10-4 p.m.   Admission is free but donations are encouraged.  Group tours are welcome with advance notice by calling 651-257-5310. The exhibit will be available until mid-November.
