Area teen succumbs to ATV crash injuries

A 13-year-old boy seriously injured while riding on his all terrain vehicle in Lent Township April 22, was able to make a cellphone call to his grandmother and tell her where he was and that he needed help.

Authorities arrived at the scene near Ivywood and Kale Avenue being dispatched shortly after noon. The initial report says the deputy observed people who told him they they had righted the machine back onto its wheels. The victim, Mason Lee Demenge, Chisago City, was not conscious. He had been riding the ATV alone.

Lakes Region EMS and LifeLink provided care and transport to Regions in St. Paul. Sheriff officials reported Sunday that Demenge died later Saturday. He was helmeted, authorities added. Nobody witnessed the crash and authorities are working to piece together a possible cause.
