Based on a recommendation by the county park board a beginner level contour flow trail has been green-lighted for Ki-Chi-Saga County Park. There is also opportunity for phase two and three adding manmade materials for a “b” line, which branches off the main line of travel, and an option for a “pump track” towards the southeast corner of the open field.
The county commissioners last week gave approval to enter into a contract with Pathfinder Trail Building to loop a 3.25 mile “flow” route from near the entryway area of the park, into the wooded hillside on the far southeast side.
The rate is $9.50 per foot, according to the company project literature.
Pathfinder, among many other sites, has done two bike trail routes in Giants Ridge Park, built Red Head Mountain Bike Park in Chisholm, a three mile route in Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park, Anoka and the four miler in Lone Lake Park, Minnetonka.
The first phase is $112,638 and potentially varied features of the “b” lines or alternative skills trails may be built as well.
The maximum expenditure requested of the County Board was $175,000.
The second quote for this project from Rock Solid Trail Construction was for $264,746.
Pathfinder flags the trail layout using GPS, then verifies the flagged path with local parks officials. Crews tackle segments using hand tools and large construction machinery. Construction will take approximately 45 days. There is a possibility the project would start later in 2023 but otherwise 2024 is the start date.
Funding has also been put together to build the long awaited structure providing shelter/concessions/bathroom facilities at Ki Chi Saga County Park.
The quote of approximately $100,193 from Structural Buildings was accepted.
