Richard Roy Carlson was born May 12, 1951 to Roy and Grace (Turner) Carlson. He died April 18, 2023 at his home on South Center Lake, in Center City, MN. He is survived by his brother Scott, cousins Janet Dahl, Dan Hoffman, Rich Hoffman, Terry Hoffman; his Turner relatives and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Martin Carlson and cousin Mary Grani.
Richard graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the McDonald’s All-America High School Band, marching in Macy’s Thanksgiving parade and the Rose Bowl parade. He also was a member of the University of Minnesota Marching Band; both of which gave him a sense of pride. He worked for many years as a meat cutter, a skill he learned in his teens while working in a Center City grocery store. He retired from Cub Foods in 2016. He was renowned for his hand-made Swedish sausage.
Richard was a gentle soul who was proud of his Swedish heritage, who loved his hometown of Center City and South Center Lake. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City, MN. Visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Interment at Hillside Cemetery in Center City, MN. Memorials preferred to Chisago Lake Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom.
