Chisago Lakes 6, Cambridge-Isanti 2

The Wildcats scored four straight goals in the second and third periods to take a 5-1 lead and went on to beat the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets 6-2 Tuesday, December 5 at Isanti Ice Arena.  Playmaker Andrew Swanson had four assists on the first four Wildcat goals, and the scoring was spread around as six different Wildcats scored goals.

Max Bobrowski scored a power play goal ten minutes into the first period, assisted by Swanson and Jack Bakken, to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.  Griffin Perreault scored at 4:21 of the second period to put the Wildcats up 2-1.  Sophomore Quinlyn Ryan scored his first career goal with 90 seconds to go in the second period to stretch the Wildcat lead to 3-1.  Bakken and Swanson picked up the assists.

Bakken scored 34 seconds into the third period, assisted by Swanson and Bobrowski.  Joe Alexander put the game out of reach when he scored with just under six minutes to go in the game.  Austin Slettom and Nolan Purdy got the assists.  The Bluejackets scored a couple of minutes later,  Dustin Palewicz put a shorthanded goal into the back of the empty net, assisted by goalie Corbin Shandley and Bobrowski, to make the final score 6-2.  The Wildcats outshot Cambridge-Isanti 34-24 for the game, and Shandley stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced to pick up the first win of his career.

Monticello 5, Chisago Lakes 1

Hockey teams tend to try to tighten up things defensively at the beginnings and ends of periods to avoid giving their opponents momentum going into the locker room or coming out of it.  The Monticello Moose scored three of their five goals in just such a manner and used that momentum to beat the Wildcats 5-1 Thursday, December 7 at Mosse Sherritt Arena in Monticello.

The Moose scored midway through the first period to go up 1-0 .  They scored a power play goal at 1:08 of the second period to double their lead to 2-0.  They scored again at 9:45 to increase their lead to three goals.  Andrew Swanson scored a power play goal two minutes later to cut the lead to 3-1.  But Cambridge-Isanti scored with 10 seconds left in the period to give the Wildcats a tougher hill to climb going into the third period.  And the Bluejackets scored a backbreaker just 32 seconds into the third period to go up 5-1.

Little Falls 4, Chisago Lakes 3

Joe Alexander scored with just over five minutes to go in the third period to cut the Little Falls lead to 4-3, but the Flyers kept the puck out of their net the rest of the period and escaped with a 4-3 win over the Wildcats Friday, December 8 at Chisago Lakes Arena.  The Wildcats outshot the Flyers 33-26 for the game.

Max Bobrowski scored a power play at 9:40 of the second period to tie the game 1-1, assisted by Ben Kerkow and Austin Slettom.  But the Wildcats took a penalty just a few seconds after they scored, and the Flyers answered with a power play goal of their own just 42 seconds after the Wildcat goal to go back on top 2-1.  Little Falls scored just over six minutes into the third period to stretch their lead to two goals.  The Wildcats kept it close, with Jack Bakken notching a power play goal at 8:45 of the period to cut the lead to 3-2.  Bobrowski and Andrew Swanson got the assists.  But the Flyers scored to go up by two just over a minute later.  Alexander’s goal cut the lead back to one, but that’s where the score stayed.

Hockey Hullaballoo

The Wildcats (2-5-0) will host the Pine City Dragons tonight Thursday at Chisago Lakes Arena at 7 p.m.    On Monday, December 18 they will welcome the Faribault Falcons to Lindstrom for a 5:40 p.m. game.  And they will play their fourth home game in a row when they take on Northern Edge Tuesday, December 19 at 5 p.m.
