Split with Moose Lake and Crookston punctuates CL girls’ nine game home stand
Chisago Lakes 4, Moose Lake 1
The Wildcats dominated the first two periods against the Moose Lake Rebels, outshooting them 28-12 to take a 2-0 lead. Play evened up in the third period, but the Wildcats added a couple more goals and beat the Rebels 4-1 Tuesday, December 12 at Chisago Lakes.
The Wildcats outshot Moose Lake 39-22 for the game. Wildcat goalie Breanna Ritter stopped 21 of the 22 shots she faced to pick up the win.
Lauren Schmidt, who leads the Wildcats with 15 points on five goals and ten assists, scored the only goal of the first period to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Ella Perreault picked up the lone assist. Lexi Smothers notched a power play goal with just over a minute remaining in the second period to double the Wildcat lead to 2-0, assisted by Joee Westland and Naomi Eaton.
Schmidt scored her second goal of the game at 1:52 of the third period, with Perreault again getting the lone assist, to make it 3-0. The Rebels scored midway through the period to cut the Wildcat lead to 3-1. Westland gave the Wildcats a little more breathing room with two minutes remaining, scoring a shorthanded, empty net goal to make it 4-1. Nora DeVries picked up the assist.
Crookston 3, Chisago Lakes 1
Crookston goalie Kambelle Freije stopped 29 of 30 shots she faced to lead the Pirates to a 3-1 win over the Wildcats Friday, December 15 at Chisago Lakes Arena.
The Pirates scored in the first period to go up 1-0. Lexi Smothers scored an unassisted goal for the Wildcats at 5:34 of the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Crookston added two more goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. The Wildcats upped the pressure in the third period, sending 15 shots at the net, but Freije shut the door to send the Wildcats down to defeat.
Hockey Hullaballoo
The Wildcats (4-5-0) will play their first road game of the season when they head to Rogers to take on the Royals tonight at 7 p.m. And on Wednesday, December 27 they will play the Blake Bears at 10 a.m. in the opening game of the Crosstown Cup, at Blake Ice Arena.
