‘Cats clobber Northern Edge and Becker
Chisago Lakes 6, Northern Edge 0
Ben Kerkow and Max Bobrowski each had two goals and an assist to lead the Wildcats to a 6-0 shutout win over the Northern Edge Tuesday, December 19 at Chisago Lakes Arena. The Wildcats outshot the Edge 48-26 for the game, and Wildcat sophomore goalie Corbin Shandley stopped all 26 shots he faced to earn the first win and the first shutout of his Wildcat career. The Wildcats special teams performed well, scoring on two of five power plays. They stopped all three Edge power play opportunities, and added a shorthanded goal for good measure.
Joe Alexander scored a power play goal midway through the first period to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead, with assists going to Lucas Ide (his first varsity career point) and Max Koch. Edge goalie Riley Pickell, who faced 18 shots in the first period, kept things close until the Wildcats scored two more goals in the final 30 seconds of the period. Ben Kerkow scored at 16:30, assisted by Landon Kerkow. And at 16:46, Max Bobrowski put one in the back of the net. Ben Kerkow and Griffin Perreault picked up the assists. The Wildcats scored two goals in a one minute span late in the second period to put the game out of reach. Ben Kerkow scored a power play goal with just over four minutes left in the period, assisted by Austin Slettom and Bobrowski. Slettom scored just 39 seconds later, with assists going to Landon Kerkow and Bobrowski, to stretch the Wildcat lead to 5-0. Bobrowski added an unassisted shorthanded goal just under three minutes into third period, and the final 14 minutes of the game was played with running time.
Chisago Lakes 11, Becker/Big Lake 1
There were goals and assists aplenty as the Wildcats demolished the Becker/Big Lake Eagles 11-1 Thursday, December 21 at Chisago Lakes Arena. Joe Alexander had four goal and two assists, including a pure hat trick, for his second hat trick in a three-game stretch. Ben Kerkow also picked up a hat trick, and had two assists to go along with it. Playmaker Austin Slettom had five assists. The Wildcats outshot the Eagles 41-17 for the game.
Max Bobrowski had four points, with two goals and two assists. Andrew Swanson had three assists, and is tied for 16th in the state with 15 assists so far this season. Griffin Perreault put two pucks in the back of the net. Nolan Purdy had two assists, and Dustin Palewicz and Cooper Toepper chipped in with one assist apiece. The assist was the first point of Toepper’s career.
Monticello 7, Northern Edge 0
The Monticello Moose completely dominated the Northern Edge, outshooting them 53-8 and shutting them out 7-0. The game was played Friday, December 22 at East Bethel Ice Arena. The loss dropped the Edge to 0-8-1 on the season.
Hockey Hullaballoo
The Edge have a good shot at picking up their first win of the season on Thursday, January 4 when they take on the Becker/Big Lake Eagles at 7 p.m. at East Bethel Ice Arena.
The Wildcats (6-5-0) will play the Forest Lake Rangers tonight (Thursday) at Forest Lakes Sports Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, they will welcome the Dodge County Wildcats to Chisago Lakes Arena for a 7 p.m. game.
