Wyoming firefighters’ pension payout rises to $4,750 per year

Wyoming City Council handled end-of-year business in quick fashion last week, in a 35 minute meeting.  Firefighters will appreciate action to raise their annual payout or pension to $4,750 per year of service upon becoming vested.  The payout was $4,500 previously.

A table of years of fiscal analysis of investments and revenues (ie: from charitable gaming) show the raise is supportable.

Council also accepted the resignation from firefighter Keith Woinarowicz.  Mayor Lisa Iverson said she personally thanks him for nine years of service.

Another departure was approved with the exit of the police administrative assistant, who accepted a post in Anoka County.

The city will advertise the vacant job position, which is open as of January 1.

Also in the area of public safety, Chief Neil Bauer recommended a reserve officer cadet for a special Wyoming P.D. program that pays for tuition for peace officer schooling and the cadet serves the city.  Rebekah Peterson would be a good eventual consideration for a police officer slot, Bauer said,  adding the department expects a couple retirements inside of two years.  The city applies state aid funds to the tuition costs.

Council approved the recommended reserve officer cadet.

At the previous city council meeting there was discussion and a vote to table revisions to a permit for All Safe Global in the industrial park. The vote was to have planning commissioners take another look at the application and the action would come back to council.

Council last week approved the requested outdoor storage and site plan after conversation about compliance, security and fire safety.  Members anticipated “avoidable emergency” scenarios and worked with the applicant to address these.

The amended Conditional Use Permit shows a better-organized lot and now height limits and lot coverage by stored items are regulated.  Council member Ohnstad stressed he does not want to see semi trailer boxes being used for storing items at the business at 26443 Fallbrook.
