County Board briefs.....

It was a brief meeting for the Chisago County Board, that ended with a closed attorney-client privilege session regarding a land use lawsuit.   The case (Goodpastor v Chisago County) is reportedly contesting the county commissioners’ denial of a permit for a rural retail (winemaking)  and gathering venue just west  of Taylors Falls. No action was announced after the closed session re-opened.

In open session the Chisago County Board was re-introduced to Health & Human Services last week, or, in the case of two newly elected commissioners,  they freshly got to know  HHS functions and duties.

(New Commissioner Jim Swenson participated remotely and Commissioner Dan Dahlberg was in person.)

HHS Director Bob Benson said the March County Board meeting, is when he gives a full recap,  and presents additional data for the past year.

~ The vacant seat on the county planning commission for District 1 was filled appointing Nathan Keech, North Branch, to the post.

Lance Peterson was re-appointed to the policy committee for the One Watershed One Plan group.

In public comment Amador Township resident Bob Weber spoke of a road project he feels has left the route more dangerous. He lives on 410th;  the Amador Hill district outside of Almelund, and he stated that since the road hill was cut down and road maintenance was performed, there is a blindspot and other hazardous aspects that weren’t apparent before.

Amador area Commissioner Rick Greene will check on the issues and report back to Weber.

The commissioners unanimously supported a statewide lobbying effort to get the legislature to fund the community supervision mandates in probation services. A new formula is needed that creates one method of funding for all 87 counties.  According to the meeting educational materials,  the state is last in the nation in spending from its general fund on corrections.  Without adequate funding probation staffs can not do their job effectively, the position paper states.  Counties deliver 80 percent of Minnesota’s probation services.
