Mae Haupt
Mae Isabell Hughes was born in St. Paul Minnesota on May 28, 1932, where she spent most of her younger years. She graduated from Harding High School in 1950. She later married John Offt and moved to Lake Elmo. Together they raised nine children. Mae saw an artistic vision in everything she touched, especially items found in nature. She loved sharing her art with family and friends, and especially with her children and grandchildren. Mae’s love of adventure and travel lead her to the love of her life, Norman Haupt. Norm and Mae were married in 1982 and made their home in Arizona for many years. Mae loved the beauty of Arizona and expanded her artistic abilities within this new landscape. As they reached their retirement years, they returned to Minnesota where they settled in Lindstrom.
Mae and Norm left an impact on all the people around them through their love for each other, and left a legacy of good friendships in their community. They were frequently seen walking together and holding hands.
Mae is survived by her brothers Jim Hughes, Richard Hughes (Jean); sister in law Cathy Hughes; and her beloved children, Deborah Peterson, Rebecca Grabski, (Steve), Jane Ramirez, Julie Knutson, Merri Krugen (Larry), Jenny Offt (Bill Laughlin), John Offt (Becca), Margo Geving (Garry), Kristine Hayes, (Tom), and Norm’s children, Norm Jr., Shirley, Jan, and Tim.
Mae is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
A special thanks to staff at Meadows on Fairview who also loved Mae as their own family. And, to Ecumen Hospice who provided loving support and
encouragement throughout Mae’s final journey.
A celebration of Mae’s life 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14 with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at Roberts Family Funeral Home, Forest Lake. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
