Narrow losses tough for Wildcats
The Wildcats dominated their game with Delano/Rockford, outshooting them 38-22. But Delano goalie Kayla Simonson stopped 37 of those 38 shots, and Delano beat the Wildcats 3-1. The game took place at the Delano Area Sports Arena on Thursday, January 5.
Delano got on the board first with a goal by Emma Treptau with just 25 seconds left in the first period. They tripled their lead with two goals just a minute apart midway through the third period, including another one by Treptau. The Wildcats poured on the pressure in the third period, outshooting Delano 20-9, but Simonson stood tall. Wildcat Ella Perreault spoiled the shutout with a power play goal at 10:24 of the period, assisted by Nora DeVries and Brooke Klemz, but Delano shut the door after that.
Rock Ridge 2, Chisago Lakes 1
Mayme Scott scored twice to lead the Rock Ridge Wolverines to a 2-1 win over the Wildcats Saturday, January 7 at the Iron Trails Motors Event Center in Virginia, Minn. For the second game in a row, the Wildcats dominated play from start to finish, but were stymied by a hot goalie. Wolverine goalie Nola Kwiatkowski stopped 34 of the 35 shots she faced.
Scott scored a power play goal at 8:58 of the first period to give Rock Ridge a 1-0 lead. Brooke Klemz tied it for the Wildcats two-and-a-half minutes later, assisted by Nora DeVries and Ella Perreault. Scott’s second goal came at 10:44 of the second period, putting the Wolverines up 2-1. But despite an 11-2 advantage in shots in the third period, the Wildcats couldn’t find the equalizer and lost their third game in a row to drop to 7-7 on the season.
