Gymcats edged by Becker before third place finish in RF
Chisago Lakes gymnastics has been steadily growing their score this season, but it wasn’t quite enough to beat Becker on Tuesday, January 10, as the Bulldogs escaped with a narrow win.
CL’s Ella Rhein won the all around while winning the floor and beam events individually, but Becker got the next three all around finishers to squeak out the victory.
“It was a very close meet overall. Had some falls on both bars and beam that hurt our score,” Head Coach Brett Kjos said. “Bre Kotlowski had a great vault and Emma Wakefield was solid on her bar routine. So clean. Ella nailed her beam routine and did her double-back tuck on floor for the first time this season which helped bump up her score.”
River Falls Invite
The Wildcat gymnastics squad had a strong third place finish at the River Falls Invite on Monday, January 16. They scored a whopping 133.175, behind just River Falls and Medford.
Rhein had a “fantastic meet” according to Kjos. She won the vault and floor events on her way to another all around championship. She also finished fourth and balance beam and fifth on the uneven bars.
Chelsea Stipe tied for third on the vault and placed seventh in the all-around. She also had a great beam routine too, Kjos said. Caty Larson had a season high score on vault and Addy Griffin set a new personal record on Bars.
“It is great to see their score slowly improve as the season progresses,” Kjos said excitedly. “We are ramping up our difficulty on every event as the section meet gets closer and closer.”
The Wildcats will take on Mississippi 8 Conference powerhouse Cambridge-Isanti on Thursday, January 19 before heading to Anoka for the Tornado Tumble Invite on Saturday, January 21.
Because of the early season weather cancellations, they ‘Cats will also host a home meet against Princeton on Tuesday, January 24 for a strech of three meets in six days.
