Lois Anderson, age 90, died on January 20, 2023, at the home of her daughter in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.  She was born in St. Paul, MN, on September 2, 1932 to David and Viola (Hokanson) Swanson.  Lois attended nurses training at the Mounds-Midway School of Nursing, and then received a degree in public health from the University of Minnesota.   She moved to Lindstrom, MN, in 1955 to work as a Chisago County public health nurse. There she met Lloyd (Poik) Anderson.  They were married for over 50 years and lived in Lindstrom until his death in 2012.  

Lois worked as a nurse for many years, in public health, in long-term care, as a discharge planner, as a student advocate, and in hospice and home health care.  She retired at age 79.  Her last 10 years were spent living on Green Lake in Chisago City.   Lois loved people, food, parties and social gatherings of all kinds.  She loved camping, nature, and the outdoors, especially wildflowers, lakes, rivers, and the ocean. She loved to quilt and sew.  She traveled as much as she possibly could, in the U.S., Europe, Central America, the  Caribbean and to Israel and Jordan.  She blessed many people with gifts of all kinds of food, and of many beautiful quilts.  Lois was an active member of Lindstrom United Methodist Church for more than 60 years.  Her faith was a very important part of her life. She served her church in many capacities over the years.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Winston.  She is survived by her daughter Wendy (Nathan) Wetzel, son Eric (Stacia); grandchildren Cole and William Anderson, Hannah Wetzel, and Laura (Timothy) Pavlik.  She is also survived by great grandchildren Isaac and Micaiah Pavlik, and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by so many beloved friends and neighbors.

“My Obituary — Revise, Use or Discard

I do not expect, or wish, my life to be “celebrated.” I am an extremely ordinary woman with few talents.  I hope that some of you will remember my life with fondness, and my death with sadness.
I have been greatly blessed.  I have loved and been loved by a good husband, two great children and their spouses, and four wonderful grandchildren (who couldn’t be loved more), and many friends.  My career in nursing has been the source of much satisfaction.  My faith in and relationship with Jesus has infused meaning into every aspect of my life. (It has left me with a few questions, too.)
Grieve because you will miss me, I hope, but don’t be sad for me.  As Pastor Dan often says, “ We will win in the end.”

There will be no funeral at this time.  A service of remembrance of Lois’s life will be held later this year, perhaps in the spring or early summer.
