Wyoming Council approves sending East Viking Boulevard out for bids

The Wyoming City Council met shorthanded last week and in a very brief meeting approved,  minus Mayor Lisa Iverson, soliciting bids for the East Viking Boulevard rebuild and the new bridge.

Engineer Mark Erichson recommended going out for both the Sunrise branch bridge and roadway bids jointly.

He acknowledged the bridge will be taking longer than the roadwork due to structural materials having a lengthier lead time.  In general the bids will be requested to be submitted in time for the city council to award the projects at the second meeting February, he added.  Work is slated for May 2023 start.

Police Chief Neil Bauer told council the open officer position is still vacant.

The department will extend its eligibility and re-post the job, plus the chief is reaching out to law enforcement schools to make contacts with graduating candidates, and even if they aren’t available until September, that will just be the hand they are dealt.

Chief Bauer added there will be a fraud prevention presentation aimed at scams targeting the elderly, at Fairview Meadows residence February 22.  The department is also invloved in the Special Olympics polar plunge fundraising event in White Bear Lake, tomorrow, January 27.
