What a great weekend they had for Wannigan Days!  A little rain (that we all needed) on Friday and beautiful the rest of the event.  We had a great time attending the parades and enjoying some great food downtown.  The car show was full on Friday evening.   Sadly, one of the cars in the show was in an accident in the roundabout on Highway 8, but he said he wasn’t going to let it ruin his night.  Wow.  

Thanks to committee members Sandra and Lynn, the City of Taylors Falls, and all of the volunteers who worked so hard this year to make Wannigan Days one to remember.  

This weekend the local fun doesn’t stop.  

The Chisago County Fair is up and running as we speak.  The midway carnival with rides, games and snacks opens today as well as many 4-H shows.  There’s horse shows, swine judging, a meat goat show, rabbit and sheep judging, beef /dairy judging, and the horse project fun displays.  The first of two demolition derbies takes place Friday followed by fireworks and Gel takes the stage after that.

Saturday’s events include  a drone engineering showcase as well as STEM demonstrations.  There is a 4-H pet show and Bingo under the tent.  The evening caps off with the popular demolition derby followed by Six to Midnight playing on the big stage.

Sunday is the very popular amateur talent contest , the 4-H showmanship roundup, free kids games (Kids’ Day), a kiddie tractor pull, Bingo under the tent, and a livestock demonstration.  

For those of you who think that Rush City is just too far to drive, trust me it’s not. You can get there in under a half hour from most places in Chisago County.  

The people that run the fair would love nothing more to host you and your family and friends for a fun day or two at the fair.  It’s just a quick jaunt up the freeway or take the old Highway 61 , north out of North Branch if you like a more scenic drive. Go left when you get to Rush City.

The Chisago Lakes Area Chamber is still in need for volunteers for the last-ever Chisago Lakes Triathlon.  They are in need of people to help with water stations, help at Paradise Park (the hub) and help the night prior to the event.  

I have volunteered with the triathlon for every year and I can verify that the runners are very appreciative of all of our great volunteers from the area.  Please give them a call at 651-257-1177 to volunteer. Let’s make the last triathlon the best one yet.
