Jane Greene

Jane Ellen (Nelson) Greene died peacefully surrounded by loving family, compassionate Moments Hospice staff, and wonderful nursing home staff at Christian Community Homes on July 18, 2023, after living a splendid life exceeding 92 years.

Jane was born on January 3, 1931, to Alfred T and Ellen M (Erickson) Nelson in Wisconsin. Her high school experience included being crowned Homecoming Queen in 1948. Jane was humbly honored by this distinction and still had her dress and shoes from coronation. She graduated from Taylors Falls School in 1949.

Jane met George Greene and they were married on July 21, 1949, and settled down on a farm south of Shafer.  Together they went on to have six children: Loretta, Michael, Robert, Kenneth, Loraine, and Marie.

Music was something that came easy to Jane. She played piano, accordion, and organ. She used her musical abilities to provide music during church services and played for special events.

Jane found herself busy feeding calves, mowing the lawn, cooking, and gardening. Opportunities that Jane enjoyed off the farm included Alter and Rosary Society, Friday morning coffee gatherings, and Greene family trips. She could typically be found carpooling kids in and around various Osceola activities.

As a rule, Jane enjoyed friends and fellowship with a steaming cup of hot coffee. Jane gathered with her heartfelt church friends on Sundays after church. But the coffee did not end at church. They also enjoyed a cup or two at McDonald’s, Arby’s, the Swedish Inn, and the Scandia Creamery.

As a grandma, Jane babysat many of her grandchildren. As they grew she shared with them how to do calf chores, lawn mowing, and strawberry picking. She drove the grandchildren to their activities (preschool, swimming lessons, etc.) and always provided irresistible homemade goodies.

Jane was proceeded in death by her loving husband of almost 55 years, George; her parents, Alfred and Ellen; sister, Ann Rue; brother in-law, Richard Rue; son in-law, Daniel Anderson, and other beloved family members and friends.

Jane is survived by her children, Loretta Anderson, Michael, Robert (Sandy), Kenneth (Joyce), Loraine Rue (David), Marie Kulzer (Gordon); 8 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and other extended family and friends.

Memorials are preferred to St Francis Xavier Church.

Mass of Christian burial was held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 25 at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment took place in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Grandstrand Funeral Home, Osceola, WI. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com.
