Disc golf close to being authorized at CLJSTC
A Chisago Lakes disc golf course, proposed for the wastewater treatment plant property north of Chisago City, is a little closer to becoming a reality. The sewer treatment commission members gave some direction last week towards finalizing operational responsibilities and their preferred length of an initial contract is three years.
The Chisago Lakes Community Education Department seeks to use part of the sewer treatment commission’s property that’s been held for expansion for years. The plant is not due for any foreseeable alteration or capacity additions and the commission was agreeable when the Community Education plan to develop a disc golf course was presented a couple meetings ago.
The regional disc golf course association is also involved and excited to assist. The commission meeting was attended by Joe Notaro speaking for the association, along with Community Education representatives.
Disc golf aligns with the school district’s life-long learning programming and is a nice option for locals seeking an active lifestyle. The hope is to use the site to host tournaments/leagues and hold classes, as well as casual walk-on play. There will also be a basic trail network around the perimeter, not allowing any access to the commission parcel.
There currently is a composting site on commission land where people who reside in the CLJSTC area can dispose of organic vegetative materials and take home finished compost. Periodically a farmer rents some additional acreage for crops as well.
The commissioners (with Bob Gustafson absent) also continued to discuss solar array installation and if an outside firm should be invited to look at what’s available or if the commissioners should await a solar energy provider to approach them. The commission attorney will be asked to look into legalities.
The Chisago Lakes Joint Treatment Commission is comprised of appointees who attend monthly meetings for Wyoming, Stacy, Chisago City, Lindstrom and Center City and the county government center/South Sanitary District basically near Hazelden. Members meet at Lindstrom City Hall.
