The Harris softball field is a big piece of the community’s history, because for many years Harris was known for its softball team.
Surprisingly, for such a small community, Harris has a large presence at the Minnesota Softball Hall of fame, with five inductees.
The field itself has a long history, established in 1947 from land that was donated to the city by Adelaide and Albert Stark, Stark Field is one of the oldest fields in the county.
The softball field in Harris has gotten a bit of a facelift, just in time for the city’s annual celebration Harris Days on July 28-29.
Some generous volunteers from the community stepped forward and painted the buildings, benches and others helped update the facilities infrastructure.
The upgrade started with Dan Lessman volunteering to paint the equipment building.
After painting the equipment building this made the concession stand look old and outdated. Tina Kolodziej and her granddaughter Miranda volunteered to paint the concession building with a mural honoring members of the community that are inducted into the softball hall of fame: Stan Pieterick, Bill Mobeck, John “Boo” Johnson, Larry Lindquist and David Meyer.
The bathrooms and grounds have been refreshed and ready for up and coming hall of famers.
