CL cruises past Rangers, but dream season ends against Rebels
Despite sporting an undefeated record going into sections, the Chisago Lakes girls lacrosse team got the fourth seed and knew that top-seeded Champlin Park would eventually be on their path to sections.
They certainly got to the Rebels by breezing past Forest Lake in the opening round, but their undefeated record, and ultimately their season, came crashing to a halt against CP.
Chisago Lakes 11, Forest Lake 6
Chisago Lakes built a lead early and never really let the Rangers threaten to overtake them when the two squads matched up on Thursday, June 1 at the Chisago Lakes Stadium.
The Wildcats had a 5-2 lead at halftime, and when the Rangers scored one to cut it to 5-3, juniors Kamryn Peterson and Aly Vogelsang instantly answered with two goals to stretch the lead back out to four at 7-3, and CL didn’t look back.
Eventually, the ‘Cats went up 10-4 before the Rangers got two garbage time goals to make the score appear a bit closer than it was.
Peterson had three goals for the Wildcats in the victory, and Vogelsang, Camryn Hinsch and Kaianna Senne each added two. Skylar Wells and Kaley Paehlke had one each.
Laura Carlson started in net and made nine saves on 16 shots for the ‘Cats.
Champlin Park 10, Chisago Lakes 3
The first loss of the season for Chisago Lakes ended up being the only loss of the season, as it ended their campaign in the section semifinals.
The top seed Rebels held the CL offense in check and were able to fire enough shots on Carlson that they eventually found some space.
