Hazelden announces $10 million gift

Up until recently, Hazelden’s biggest gift had been $8 million officially announced in July 2022 and received through the Estate of  Max E. and Joyce Wildman.  But, last week Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation announced a $10 million commitment coming from the Diana Davis Spencer Foundation; as the largest donation to date received by the Center City-based organization.

The gift is going to help support breaking the stigma of addiction and increasing crucial resources for loved ones impacted by addictions.  The CEO and President of the Diana Davis Spencer Foundation, Abby Moffat,  said she hoped the gift encourages others to step up and support families affected by this often overlooked disease.  Moffat said she was personally aided in developing her own well being by Hazelden Betty Ford when she found herself in recovery.
The $10 million will provide initial funding to establish the National Center for Families and Children. Joseph Lee MD and President ad CEO of Hazelden Betty Ford, said the “generous investment” will help to build more immersive and robust programming for children and families and, “... our shared long term vision to empower recovery and well being for all.”

Goals include innovations in services for families and children and programming for specific groups like adolescents, Native Americans and Spanish-speakers,  plus expanding research.

“Helping family members heal and empowering them to be part of their loved one’s recovery,  is a key to unlocking transformative change and improving outcomes in addiction and mental health care,” Lee added.

In addition to the campus at Center City;  Hazelden Betty Ford has facilities in Plymouth, Maple Grove, Chaska, and St Paul— as well as Oregon, Washington State, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Florida and California.
