Townships hold elections, meetings soon

The second Tuesday of every March, townships in Minnesota hold annual meetings where residents gather to review the budget, talk about concerns and make suggestions.  Most townships also hold elections, although in Chisago County— Lent and Nessel Townships have opted to  provide ballots on the November General Election calendar.

All the townships hold annual meetings, March 14, which will generally be called to order immediately after balloting closes, which is 8 p.m.

Meetings are a time when taxpayers vote directly on the amount of the following year’s levy.  The specific apportioning process is up to the Township Board, within those limits.

Major issues are also reviewed and town supervisors seek direction from meeting attendees.
Eight townships in the county will have ballots next week; from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There are contested races in just Chisago Lake and Fish Lake, so the Press invited those candidates to submit filing statements.  We received one complete response, on this page from Sherry Stirling and a campaign brochure from Donna Prahl that highlights her goals to update technology, broadband service and infrastructure.
