Sally Barott

Sally Jean Barott, age 66, of Shafer, MN, passed away on March 23, 2023 at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, MN, after living with breast cancer for 12 years. Sally was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

Sally was born to parents Kenneth (Bud) and Lois Barott, and was the fifth of six children. She graduated from Chisago Lakes High School in 1975, and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design from Metropolitan State University.

Sally was a free spirit and always enjoyed learning new things. She was especially passionate about her Swedish roots and took many trips to Sweden to study and chronical her Swedish Heritage. Sally was deeply involved in the community and worked diligently to preserve the Chisago Lakes Swedish History and was a wealth of knowledge to anyone that wanted to learn more about the history of the area. Sally operated the Swedish Circle Tours and gave tours of the Chisago Lakes Area. She also made travel arrangements and took groups of people “back to the homeland” as she would say, to tour Sweden. Sally’s extensive knowledge of the Chisago Lakes area and Swedish Heritage will be greatly missed.

Sally had a strong gift for hospitality and loved to entertain. She became the new proprietor of “Country Bed and Breakfast” after her parents, who started the business in 1982, passed away.  The “Country Bed and Breakfast” celebrated 40 years in business this past year. Sally loved to share her family home with many guests from all over the world, especially Sweden.

Sally was a life-long member of Chisago Lake Lutheran Church and had a strong presence in sharing the history and legacy of the Church. She had a fun personality and dreamed up the idea of “The Grumpy Old Men” church service. People were encouraged to come in their flannel shirts and fishing attire to remember the filming of the movie Grumpy Old Men, which was filmed at the Church and has since become an annual event.

Sally is survived by her sisters Debra (Barott) Peterson, Jan (Barott) and Lee Pearson, Kaye (Barott) and DeWayne Weise, brother Matt Barott , sister-in-law Cheryl Barott Wengeler and 10 nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews, aunts and many cousins all whom she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth (Bud) and Lois Barott and brother Jeffrey Barott.  She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Sally’s Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2023 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City, MN.  There will be a visitation from 10-11 a.m. in the church sanctuary and a luncheon will follow in the Fellowship Hall for all to enjoy and share memories of Sally.  A private interment will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be sent to: Barott Memorial, P.O. Box 392, Center City, MN 55012.  Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, MN.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
