Offender re-enters system after 22 years

A man incarcerated for criminal sexual conduct with two minor-aged males as his victims, in 2001, was back in county jail this week, booked on a probation violation.  Rodney Owen Scofield will serve out a stayed sentence of 54 months, as decided in a hearing April 24, before Judge Trevino.  He was held locally pending transfer to St. Cloud Correctional Facility.

Chisago County Attorney Janet Reiter said Scofield’s supervised probation was to expire in March 2033. She stated, this court response is an example of how the monitoring and agent oversight provides a level of supervision and accountability of serious offenders in our community.

Scofield was charged with first and second degree criminal sexual conduct for incidents that took place while he worked as a local youth church choir director.  Charges stemmed from 1995 to 2000.  He entered a guilty plea to Judge Clifford in 2001 on the second degree counts and first degree charges were dismissed. He was apprehended on a probation violation in October 2022 and was in Center City for the hearing last month.  County Attorney Reiter said she was unable to share the actual probation stipulation that was violated.  

INCIDENT REPORTS

April 29 A non-recreational burning incident without a permit reported on Keystone Avenue rural Sunrise. Authorities advised putting fire out.

April 27 report by city public works director submitted at 9 a.m., that a couple cabins at Ojiketa were damaged inside by apparent explosion.  Evidence collected by Lakes Area Police is being reviewed.

Middle School in Lindstrom called in a student acting out, hitting staff allegedly. Incident happened about 1:20 p.m. Lakes Area officers responded.

April 26 two vehicle crash at Olinda Trail and Chisago Blvd., reported about 8:43 p.m.  One driver transported to Fairview Lakes hospital the second driver was unhurt. Preliminary reports are being reviewed by county attorney staff for charges.  A southbound vehicle on Olinda was struck by a westbound vehicle on Chisago Blvd.  The westbound driver was hurt.

April 25 a theft of package from front door of a Center City address, reported about 10:37 a.m.

Crash at Stacy Trail and Lofton, north of Chisago City called in at 11:49 a.m. One driver cited for failing to stop at the four-way. No MN driver’s license in possession. No serious injury reported.

April 24 a bullet/pellet damaged property on Malmberg Avenue, north of Lindstrom. Happened over weekend and discovered Monday.

A suspect fled from Kwik Trip in Stacy about 8 p.m. when deputy attempted to check on condition of a cracked windshield. Individual was found, arrested and booked for driving after revocation and failing to appear for court.
