Along with trips to Canada, Jim also pursued many other trips for fishing and a number of other outdoor activities throughout Minnesota and other states. Jim possessed a highly proficient knowledge of vehicle repair and maintenance, he joined the Marines at an early age because of his vehicle mechanic desires. Jim always loved animals and usually had at least one large dog if not more living at his residence. Jim was always one to share his knowledge and experience with others and help those in need.
