Kevin Charter

Kevin S. Charter, age 63 of Center City, loving husband, dad, grandpa and brother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 6, 2023. Preceded in death by parents, Darrell amd Gertrude; brothers, Gary, Ron, Dennis. Survived by loving wife of 39 years, Laurel “Lori”; daughter, Cassandra; grandchildren, Aaron and Emma Moe; brother, Kurt; in-laws, William and Nonna Zwick; sisters-in-law, Marlys, Lisa Maetche, Lynn (Greg) Kienholz; brother-in-law, Wade (Kathy) Zwick; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Kevin grew up on a small hobby farm in Scandia, MN, where his love of nature began. He loved being outdoors, sitting at a nice fire, gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, being with family and friends. His favorite stories were of camping adventures where he and brother Kurt would go with friends to the railroad trestle and the mischief they would get into or the grand water fight at the neighbor’s house which involved buckets and open windows, oh no. His love of the outdoors followed into adulthood, introducing daughter Cassandra to camping at three months of age. He cherished the family camping trips throughout Minnesota and would often plan father and daughter outings. Kevin had several hobbies, one was fishing, especially ice fishing. He would go out on the ice in all weather, even blizzard conditions. One winter he did so well fishing, the neighboring anglers gave him the esteemed title of Crappie King. He was so proud!

After moving out to the country he was most excited to hunt on his own land and start a garden, he wanted to be self-sufficient. He looked forward to hunting each fall using his black powder rifle and he enjoyed making his own ammunition and collected horns to transform into powder horns to hold the black powder. He filled the garden with a variety of produce which he used when cooking. He enjoyed trying recipes he found on-line and created a four-inch-thick binder of his favorites. Foods he really enjoyed making and sharing with family and friends were salsa and chili along with jams, pies, and banana walnut chocolate chip bread. Another of his hobbies was wood working, he enjoyed taking raw material and making something useful, most recently, turning wood on his lathe for making farro rod handles, when complete he would use for starting his campfires.

Although these last few years were difficult to enjoy his hobbies to the fullest, he always looked forward to simple things like sitting outside, enjoying a nice campfire, time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren Aaron and Emma. He had a great sense of humor and often laughed the loudest at his own jokes.

A family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
