Law Enforcement

October 8 Lakes Area Police got a report of a large sum of cash taken from an envelope at a Sylvan Avenue address. Unclear if it was taken from the U.S. mail.

October 6 a sheriff patrol tried to stop a side-by-side ATV about 8 p.m.—that was traveling on the Swedish Immigrant Regional Trail near Shafer where motorized vehicles are prohibited. The ATV driver and passenger fled on the vehicle.  There was a pursuit and the ATV was eventually abandoned, but the K9 unit located the suspects hiding in a shed near Banyan Road a short time later. The adult faces driving after revocation among other charges for fleeing.

October 5 a contractor was cited for starting work too early at a site in Lindstrom. A complainant said work began at 5 a.m. and the ordinance for projects restricts start time to no earlier than 7 a.m.

October 2 Lakes Area recovered a motorcycle in Lindstrom stolen from North Branch months before.  A 38 year old female was cited for no license plate, no insurance and other related violations.

Dispose of drugs October 28

The sheriff’s drug takeback team will be on-site at the Public Safety Facility in Center City October 28, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The drop-off provides a secure box place where you can leave your waste medicines and prescriptions for proper disposal.  The facility is just to the north of the round-a-bout, at Pleasant Valley and Highway 8.  (Hazelden-Betty Ford is on the opposite side of #8.). Turn where you see the solar panel array and go into the driveway to the big white building.

Access to leftover or expired meds, either over the counter or pharmaceuticals, is one of the main methods people get ahold of dangerous substances and can overdose. Clean out your cabinets and drawers this fall and make your home a little safer place.

Leave labels on packaging so authorities know what types of medicines they are dealing with, but it is recommended your black-out the part of the label with any personal information.  This is a no questions asked anonymous opportunity.
