Wildcats split M8C match ups with Thunder
Abby Zins crushed over 40 kills in two matches last week, but it only resulted in a 1-1 record for the Chisago Lakes Wildcats, as they lost to Zimmerman 3-1 and beat St. Francis 3-0.
Zimmerman 3, Chisago Lakes 1
The first three sets were all razor thin between the Wildcats and Thunder, but Zimmerman escaped with two of them, and that proved to be a little too difficult for CL to come back from.
Zimmerman won the first two sets by tallies of 25-23 and 27-25, going right down to the wire in both of them. Zins and Rebecca Norelius each had sparkling offensive performances, but Zimmerman just had a bit more firepower.
In the third set, the offense and defense married seamlessly and the ‘Cats had their best set, holding off the sweep with a 25-23 set win.
But, the Thunder came crashing in during the fourth set, and Chisago Lakes didn’t handle it well, losing 25-15 to lose the match.
Zins had 26 kills on the night to go along with two aces. Norelius had 14 kills for the Wildcats and Kayla Larsen had seven. Setter Ella Weinzetl had 48 assists with some well delivered balls.
Chisago Lakes 3, St. Francis 0
The Wildcats rebounded nicely to crush St. Francis on Thursday, October 5. They were effective on offense again, but St. Francis did them plenty of favors, committing a number of errors in a 25-19, 25-14 and 25-22 sweep of the Fighting Saints.
Zins had 15 kills and Norelius had seven. The team had eight blocks, with Breanna Ritter apart of four of them.
