Bruce Heilig

Bruce Linnell Heilig, a beloved resident of Chisago City, MN, passed away on September 21, 2023. He was born on January 25, 1942, in Hastings, MN, to Ethel (Daley) Heilig and Percy Heilig, and he left this world surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Bruce's journey began in Chisago City, where he grew up and attended Chisago Lakes High School. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Pauline (Strandberg) Heilig, and together they shared a beautiful life filled with love. Their union blessed them with two wonderful sons, Todd and Troy.

Bruce was a man of many interests and hobbies. He had a passion for sports, whether it was playing them himself or cheering for his favorite teams. He also enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors, where he found solace in hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. The highlight of his life was annual fishing trips to Canada with his boys and friends.

Professionally, Bruce dedicated a significant portion of his life to working for the Star Tribune. He was a dedicated and hardworking individual who often won awards. After years of dedication, Bruce eventually retired from the Star Tribune, leaving behind a lasting legacy of commitment.

One of the greatest joys in Bruce's life was the time he spent with Pauline. They were snowbirds, migrating to sunny Arizona for over two decades, where they indulged in their love for tennis, golf, and pickleball. The warmth of their love for each other shone brightly as they cherished their time together in the desert sun.

Family was at the center of Bruce's heart. He adored his wife, Pauline, and their sons, Todd and Debbie (Olson), and Troy and Roxane (Poulter), along with his grandchildren: Sarah and Marc Leaser, Derek and Abbey (Benson) Heilig, and Leah and Ryan Landherr. His great-grandson, Blaine Leaser, held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with the youngest member of the family.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Percy Heilig, and siblings Robert Heilig, Herb Heilig, Janet Autey, and Jon Steven Heilig, Bruce's memory lives on through those who loved him. Bruce is survived by siblings Glen and Angie Heilig, and Judi and Sam Harms.

Bruce was not only a family man but also a friend to many. His warm and caring nature made him a cherished member of the community, church, among his colleagues at work, Sportsman Club, Lions Club, and helped found L.A.R.A, and coached tennis and baseball at the high school. Bruce and Pauline owned the Sport Shack in Lindstrom. He was a friendly face in the community, having coffee and shaking dice, and his kindness touched the lives of friends, family, and countless others who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bruce will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for sports and the outdoors, and his warm and friendly demeanor. His memory will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
