Childcare listening sessions scheduled by Sen. Koran

In April 2024 the MN Department of Human Services published draft revisions proposed for licensing childcare in Minnesota.  The family, group and community based childcare rules and regulations for licensure had been relatively unchanged since the 1980s.  Dpeuty Inspector General for the DHS, Alyssa Dotson, states in the proposal’s introduction the department is hoping people take time to review the draft document and share their perspective.  The draft is on-line at the website mn.gov/dhs/assets/draft-revised-family-childcare-licensing

There are new standards being proposed in areas like required water testing for well water (non-municipal) systems where childcare is provided, there are training standards for workers, better definitions of job descriptions and special needs children are being addressed,

Local State Senator Mark Koran is inviting all interested people to come to a listenning session on these revisions, he is sponsoring at two local libraries and Rush City Community Center this month.

The North Branch Area Library is hosting the first listening session, August 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.  Chisago Lakes Area Library is reserved for a session August 22, also from 6 to 8 p.m.  The Rush City meeting is August 28, 6 to 8 p.m. at the community center.

If you are providing childcare, are looking to get into the business, have children in care or just want to learn more, you are encouraged to give your input ahead of the 2025 legislative session, when action is expected.
